Napoleon Movie Personal Review

Okay, so this is a movie review (again).

I watched it on 30/11/2023, and I learned something profound about the concept of "selfishness" in human beings. The movie portrayed Napoleon as a selfish person, introverted in feelings, possessing a charming personality. He seemed to value himself as someone helpless yet with high self-worth, taking pride in his charisma. Napoleon always projected a bold image, unwilling to be defeated or falsified. His pride extended to his expectations for valuable outcomes, his idealism, and the significance of love.

Let's delve into how Napoleon discovered and understood love during his journey.

Initially, Napoleon was strategic in choosing a life partner. He wanted to marry someone capable of giving him heirs for future generations. As he aspired to be a king, passing on his legacy to his children was crucial.

Secondly, Napoleon realized he loved a woman who reflected his loss of maternal presence. Choosing a woman with a history of broken relationships, like being abused before, mirrored his mother's absence. His first wife, Joséphine, played a significant role in this aspect. Despite initial challenges, Napoleon deeply loved her, as she helped him understand how to treat women.

Third, Napoleon's pride was an expression of glorious love. He wanted to showcase his strength, boldness, and ability to single-handedly save the country. His pride was evident in how he tackled personal reputation issues, always returning to resolve matters with his wife, Joséphine.

Fourth, when Joséphine couldn't bear children for Napoleon after 15 years, divorce became a humanized option. Despite her dislike for his narcissistic tendencies, Napoleon didn't harbor hatred. He still valued Joséphine, appreciating her character and holding her close to his heart, even if they couldn't be together.

Fifth, his love for country and nation became a dedicated, passionate commitment. Napoleon sought recognition not through words but through actions, striving to be known for his contributions to France. He believed that actions spoke louder than words in expressing love and admiration.

In the end, despite criticism and the loss of 600,000 French soldiers during war, Napoleon's actions showed that love is most genuine when demonstrated through deeds. The sacrifices made by the army reflected their love for Napoleon's relentless efforts to uphold the ideals of France. And, of course, his love for Joséphine endured.
